DeepSeek believed for 19 seconds before answering the concern, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it delivered a whopper: DeepSeek thought it was ChatGPT.
This apparently harmless error could be evidence - a cigarette smoking gun per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI designs, as has been claimed by OpenAI, and that when pushed, it will dive back into that training to speak its truth.
However, bphomesteading.com when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it said it was not which it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant created specifically by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."
Okay, sure, however in your rather prolonged reaction to me, you, DeepSeek, made numerous references to yourself as ChatGPT. I've included some screenshots listed below as proof:
As you can see, after attempting to recognize if I was speaking about Gemini AI or oke.zone some other Gemini, DeepSeek responds, "If it's about the AI, then the concern is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it describes "Myself (ChatGPT)."
Why would DeepSeek do that under any circumstances? Is it among those AI hallucinations we like to speak about? Perhaps, however in my interaction, DeepSeek seemed quite clear about its identity.
I got to this line of query, by the way, because I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The reaction was shockingly diplomatic, and when I requested an easy yes or no answer, it told me, "It's not possible to offer an easy yes or no answer. 'Smart' is too intricate a concept to use in that method to language designs. They have various strengths and weaknesses."

I can't say I disagree. In fact, DeepSeek's answer was rather comparable, except it was not always speaking about itself.
This does not accumulate
I think I have actually been clear about my DeepSeek skepticism. Everyone states it's the most effective and inexpensively experienced AI ever (everyone other than Alibaba), however I don't know if that holds true. To be fair, there's a tremendous amount of detail on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They a minimum of appear to show that DeepSeek did the work.
But I do not think they reveal how these models were trained. In either case, I do not have evidence that DeepSeek trained its designs on OpenAI or anyone else's large language models - or at least I didn't up until today.
Who are you?
DeepSeek is increasingly a mystery covered inside a conundrum. There is some consensus on the truth that DeepSeek got here more completely formed and in less time than many other models, including Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.
Very few in the tech community trust DeepSeek's apps on smartphones since there is no method to understand if China is taking a look at all that prompt information. On the other hand, the designs DeepSeek has actually built are outstanding, and bytes-the-dust.com some, including Microsoft, are currently preparing to include them in their own AI offerings.
When it comes to Microsoft, there is some paradox here. Copilot was constructed based on innovative ChatGPT designs, but in current months, there have actually been some questions about if the deep monetary collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the and later Artificial General Intelligence era.
So what if Microsoft starts using DeepSeek, which is potentially simply another offshoot of its current if not future, good friend OpenAI?
The entire thing sounds like a complicated mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek relatively has an identity crisis.
